The Beauty
What is beauty? Current preoccupations are with shiny hair, glowing skin, sparkling eyes and strong nails. All of these are signs of good health. True beauty comes from within. Beauty begins with what we eat, the exercise we do and our state of mind. Stress causes all types of problems and can affect your beauty as well as health. All of these things are linked and you need to find the perfect balance to look your best.
When people aren’t healthy they don’t look as good as they could, it does take time for the effects of poor diet to manifest externally. I have seen many previously stunning friends from school look a lot older and less attractive because of poor habits (whether smoking, heavy drinking, inadequate exercise and sleep or poor diet).
Being the most beautiful and healthy person you can takes discipline. It is best to take things one step at a time, replacing one bad habit with a good one. You don’t have to follow every tip or purchase all the green products I review, just increase your awareness of what beauty involves.
Many of us are changing our diets and choosing a natural approach, this should apply to the products we use on our skin. Around 70,000 chemicals potentially come into contact with your skin and the world is becoming more toxic. It’s a no brainer to use natural organic products that are kinder to us and better for the environment.
Many fabulous eco friendly brands are now available to consumers. It is a bit of minefield to distinguish between the truly natural and the pretenders- this site contains product reviews to help you be aware of what is out there.
So what does the green diva look for when looking for eco friendly cosmetics?
- Products that are not tested on animals, including the ingredients. Extra points for companies who are committed to working to eliminate animal testing (such as using the FCOD policy).
- Vegetarian and vegan ingredients. It takes the fun out of product when an animal had to give its life for your vanity.
- Minimal packaging, which means less waste for the landfill.
Eco beauty is common sense; scientists say that many beauty products contain carcinogenic ingredients. The newer the ingredient the less we know about the long term implications of the product. Let’s keep it as natural as possible. As I like to say “look good and feel great… the green way!”
