Lush Smitten Hand Cream review

Smitten is heralded by Lush as their lighter, daytime hand cream with the same scent as the hugely popular Snowcake soap that appears over Christmas. Now my hands are often in sorry condition over the winter as I have Raynaud’s phenomenon. It is not unusually for my fingers to become a deep purple in the cold so I make sure I massage them regularly to boost the circulation.

The cream

Smitten comes in a small black plastic tub with a screw on lid. On the front is a label with the Lush logo and ingredients. On opening the lid I am greeted by a scent that can be described as delicious- it is definitely almonds with a floral touch. Smitten contains rose oil though I wouldn’t guess this by scent alone. The scent has been likened to being like marzipan and I think that a perfect description, though it isn’t sickly sweet but quite comforting. The cream is white and surprisingly thick and rich in consistency. It is categorized as vegetarian rather than vegan due to the beeswax and lanolin it contains.

The smell lasts for a while on my hands which is excellent, what I particularly like is it moisturises so well without being greasy. This makes it ideal when you are rushed for time and need to get ready quickly.

Results

Since I started using Smitten the tub lives on my bedside table. I use it at least a couple of times a day. I like to rub it into my hands and feet at night and it has made my skin soft even in the winter.

I have noticed that the dry skin around my cuticles is gone and my hands probably look better than ever. Overall I am immensely pleased with this product and it may be another staple in my Lush stash.

Value

The cream costs £6.10 which for 100g is not exactly cheap. On the tub label, it says ‘One touch and you’re smitten’ and though this is incredibly cheesy – it has been true in my case. In the past I have been rather lax with moisturising, but this product is such a treat that I use it everyday with no effort. It is without doubt the best hand cream I’ve have ever used. A little goes a long way with Smitten and so it is better value than other cheaper brands.

I’ve had my tub of Smitten for a month now and am about a quarter through it. I have more then enough to last me for another three months. Also if you return 5 of the empty black plastic tubs for Lush to recycle, you get a free fresh mask, which means it is worth over £1.
