Lush Ultrabland review

Ultrabland is one of those products that I didn’t try until quite recently. I overlooked it as it didn’t seem as interesting as other facial cleansers such as Angels on Bare Skin or Coalface. After reading continuous rave reviews in the Lush Times I finally got round to testing it out this autumn.

The cleanser

Ultrabland comes in the standard Lush small black tubs with the logo and ingredients. Minimal packaging made from 100% recycled material and you can take back to the store to be recycled again. Take back 5 black tubs and you are rewarded with a free face mask so keep your tubs!

On opening the pot, I couldn’t smell anything (shocking for a Lush product), I was pleased as I didn’t really want to smell like peanut oil which is one of the main ingredients. Ultrabland is a yellowish coloured, very thick and oily cream with tiny granules.

This product contains rose water and rose absolute which are wonderful for dry skin. Combined with honey, beeswax and glycerine this is a real treat for everyone. The cream is made from natural ingredients, with a few preservatives added to stop it from going off. Though Ultrabland is suitable for all skin types, people with peanut allergies should avoid it as it does contain peanut oil.

How to use

I tend to apply a pea-sized amount of Ultrabland to my fingers and dot it over my face and then massage around for a few minutes. I enjoy melting the tiny granules into my skin. Less is definitely more with this product.

I remove it by dampening a facial cloth with hot water and then rub off Ultrabland carefully. This method is easy and I am never left with greasy skin. Ultrabland has multiple uses- I use it to tame my eyebrows, as an emergency lip balm, to define curls and even on my cuticles. It is even more versatile than Vaseline (and far more animal friendly).

Results

Afterwards my skin feel soft, and extremely clean. My skin type is normal/combination depending on the weather; I can get a shiny nose but annoying dry bits around my lips. Since using Ultrabland my skin has looked a lot healthier and I have noticed less spots than in the past.

All makeup comes off easily with this, though I don’t wear much makeup so this part of the test wasn’t too hard to pass. I am a little lazy when it comes to having a wash/tone/moisturise routine so I just use Ultrabland at night instead. It only takes five minutes to make my skin feel absolutely amazing.

Value

Ultrabland costs £5.66 for the small 45g tub, and though it may seem like it is extremely expensive I know it will last me about 8-12 months. I was given a tiny amount as a sample and it lasted me two months (used every night). I was hooked and had to purchase a tub. Overall this cleanser is so effective that you don’t need a separate eye make-up remover so it is worth the extra pennies. I would definitely buy this again as it has become my decadent nightly ritual.
