I have recently discovered Pure Nuff Stuff a company which make products that are as pure as possible. I have been trying to find a conditioner which is green and doesn’t contain SLS. My inner mad scientist is delighted that I can order a custom made conditioner- where I can choose up to four essential oils from their list which they will blend into my conditioner for me!
This is fabulous for someone like myself who likes to create a signature scent. After messing around with ideas I create a top secret blend of oils (including patchouli). I am delighted to find that you can also have shampoos, shower gels and moisturiser custom made. Not only can you cut out the crap from your cosmetics you can also choose how they smell, a double bonus in my opinion. I can already see myself creating a winter scent, and even sending friends custom made scents.
If you aren’t sure about what scent to create there are six nice scents you can choose from including Rose & Vanilla and Ylang Ylang and Lime.
Pure Nuff Stuff are a company based in Cornwall and produce their great handmade skincare that is available to purchase online. If you go to Penwith in Cornwall it is worth going to visit their shop.
The conditioner
PNS custom made conditioner is in liquid form and comes in a simple white bottle. The lid is a flip down top- so it is easy to open in the shower yet impossible to spill accidentally. The conditioner cost £6.50 for a 250ml bottle. The subtle blue and green Pure Nuff Stuff label goes around the bottle, with the list of ingredients and a closer look shows the BUAV approved logo. A label at the base of the bottle shows that the conditioner is best before 30/04/10 so I’m happy it’ll last for almost a year.

Flipping open the lid reveals a pretty nice scent- though the patchouli is a little strong. Next time I will ask for the smallest drop of patchouli. I must admit that I was a little disappointed that the conditioner looked and felt just like normal high street conditioners. The product was white and the texture is the same as most conditioners.
Product in action
The conditioner is quite light and easy to apply to hair. Remember to give the bottle a good shake to mix all the oils together. This led to better blend and the patchouli stopped smelling too strong.
A good hot and steamy shower will open up your hair cuticles and enhance conditioning. I tend to apply conditioner towards the end of a shower and then leave it in a towel for ten minutes. I then wash the conditioner out with lukewarm water and finish with a shot of cold water to leave hair extra shiny by sealing the hair cuticles. I do have naturally dry and coarse hair so conditioning is really important.
The results
After the first wash my hair felt soft and smelt lovely. Hair wasn’t left feeling as soft as after using Retread however I would say it was still a nice treat. I would say this conditioner is aimed more at those with normal hair.
Value
PNS custom made conditioner comes in two sizes: 250ml- £6.50/ 500ml – £10.50
I know the 250ml bottle works out as more expensive but I would not need more until April 2010 (the best before date) anyway. Please note the above price doesn’t include postage which will make it more expensive. I don’t mind paying £6.50 on a conditioner which will last until next spring.
I feel good spending at Pure Nuff Stuff as they don’t test on animals and are keen to minimise their carbon fooprint. As a green consumer I want my money to go to a company that does something good with their profits.
If you think about the costs of creating your own perfume (significantly more than £6.50) then this custom made conditioner is a wonderful way of creating your individual scent without spending a lot of money.
