Pure Nuff Stuff Hair and Body Bar review
In my quest of reducing waste I have been testing shampoo bars. These eco friendly products not only eliminate the need for plastic bottle but also mean there is less of a product to travel. After doing a bit of research I discovered that Pure Nuff Stuff do a Hair and Body bar and I just had to buy it to find out if it works.
As I am off to India next month I love the idea of a solid hair and body bar, no more worries of bottles leaking and also cuts down on what I need to pack (more space for shoes…lol). After reading thrugh the choices of scents- ylang ylang & lime, sage, basil & lemon, peppermint and lemongrass I opted for the latter. Lemongrass is a scent I like in the summer and the 100g bar is a bargain at £2.95. Take a peek at the bar and see what you think.
I found ordering from the website very easy and my order arrived about a week afterwards (not bad as I also ordered a custom made conditioner).
The bar

The bar comes wrapped in paper sealed with a Pure Nuff Stuff sticker. After unwrapping the bar I was pleased to find that the lemon coloured bar had a lovely subtle citrus fragrance.
I must admit I was a little dubious that it will work on both my hair and skin so I had a shower to find out if it was any good. First I swooshed the bar round my head three times and was amazed at the amount of lather produced. This bar doesn’t contain SLS and therefore I thought there wouldn’t be any bubbles but I was pleasantly surprised! The fragrance was very nice and my hair felt fine after rinsing the suds away. As there is a lot of lather produced it was easy to soap up in the shower and get clean fast.
It appears that this Lemongrass bar is a huge timesaver negating faffing with shower gels/ shampoos/ conditioners etc. My skin and hair both felt and smelled wonderful afterwards, though my thick hair needed additional conditioning. This is no surprise as my hair is on the dry side and I always need to condition it. If you plan to use the bar to shave with you will be pleased as the oils in the bar mean that the razor glides effortlessly over your skin.
Two weeks on and the bar still smells amazing and I’m pleased to report the scent of the bar doesn’t fade away when left unwrapped.
The SLS Issue
SLS is the chemical Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, which is a foaming agent used by many shampoos and foaming bath/ shower products. SLS is used because it is cheap and a very effective foaming agent. SLS is a pretty powerful chemical and has had some bad press in relation to scalp problems, irritating skin and
as it can penetrate the cornea of the eye- it can accumulate and then be released slowly. Not very pleasant. However I do think some of the information is blown out of proportion- it does have the longest safety record in household products. Not sure how dangerous SLS is but I prefer to keep it away from my eyes/ hair when possible!
Value
I have purchased shampoo bars that are half the size and double the price (this bar is only £2.95) so my purse is very happy. Bear in mind you will have to pay postage and also VAT on top of that. My plan is to cut the bar in half so it fits in my Lush shampoo bar tin, I am travelling a lot and so I need the bar to be portable. I have used the bar a few times and it still looks brand new so it is very economical. I would not be surprised if I still had some left this time next year. I would recommend this product particularly to anyone who is off on holiday. Minimise the products you use and become more green!
